"What's the point of life when it doesn't make sense , when God blocks all roads to meaning?
and
"The worst of my fears has come true, what I've dreaded most has happened."
There are a couple points that come to my mind:
1. First this says that in the worst of times, when one has hit rock bottom and has nothing left to which to cling, God is present, God is there.
2. As a culture, Americans we do not take the time to reflect on a deep level when things are going well. It is in the deepest, darkest times that we turn most to faith. I think God knew this, fully, when he allowed Satan to test Job. God knew that the worse things got, the more Job would turn to God, the most Job was question himself, the actions he took, and the thoughts he was having.
Henri Nouwen wrote: To be a witness means to offer your own faith experience and to make your doubts and hopes, failures and successes, loneliness and woundedness, available to others as a context in which they can struggle with their own humanness and question for meaning." (p. 10)
Although I believe our successes do not provoke a reflection on the same level as failures, all are useful.
